Bonjour, DenudedArt Readers.
It’s Wednesday and most of y’all are probably busy busy busy and wishing it could just be the weekend already. So I’ll be brief.
The graduating class of the Michaelis School of Fine Art (UCT) are holding their annual silent auction tomorrow! The official auction coincides with the August edition of ‘First Thursdays’ (Whoop Whoop) and will be held at the Jan Royce Gallery in Cape Town.
Bids on works start from as low as R50 (what a bargain!), and so the auction is a great way for visitors to purchase art at well below normal gallery prices.
Funds raised by the auction will ultimately help showcase the work of 50+ graduating students to thousands of local and international visitors. The physical auction will be followed by an online auction for works that could not be exhibited at the venue due to limited space. Details of the online auction will be revealed at the official event.
In appreciation for the use of the venue, a percentage of the proceeds will also be donated to the Jan Royce Foundation for up-and-coming local artists.
Jan Royce Gallery is situated on 64 Church Street, Cape Town. It is a space that houses amazing art pieces and is smack in the middle of what I would call the heart of the CBD.
Arguably one of the best galleries in Cape Town, Jan Royce is a true gem located in the central hub of art galleries in Church Street. The interior features white walls and enough lighting (creating a warm vibrant atmosphere) for viewers to enjoy the space and the artworks on display.
The interior is striking and there is ample space for you to walk around and admire the art! It’s simple and edgy I’d say.
If it’s a cool vibe and an awesome time you’re looking for, best you attend First Thursdays tomorrow evening.
Bring your friends, your warm jackets and some change to purchase the artworks.
Tip: it’s going to be buzzing with art fanatics, so be prepared to loose your friends, once or twice, in the crowd! However it’s a great way to make new friends and to engage with the art.
