If you haven’t heard of the Mercedes-Benz Bokeh South African International Fashion Film Festival then please please get your eish together and check it out.
I was clearing out my closet a couple of days ago when I realized that I have absolutely nothing to wear and that the festival is in a few days (I sound vain yep I know). That realization gave me a mild anxiety attack but it also got me pretty excited.
What’s #BokehFFF like?
In one word: Incredible.
And where is it being held this year?
At the new Aquarium in the V&A Waterfront.
Yup, you read that right. The red carpet will be rolled out in this wondrous space and I hope to be the first to take selfies with the sharks…
It’s difficult to believe that the festival is in its third installment this year. I mean that’s an achievement in itself. And each year has been nothing but incredible. I would know because I was there last year, and the year before that.
THINGS HAVE CHANGED quite a bit since the launch in 2014. Adrian Lazarus and his team have managed to push the envelope time and time again. And recent years have seen exciting brands come on board including FashionOne Tv, Caffeluxe, CT Fashion Council, Sunglass Hut and Oude Meester.
One of the things that I really love about BOKEH (other than the boozy cocktails) is that each individual guest can take a fun educational experience from it – by and by nothing can quite beat the festival vibe and the experience of being in the same space with great directors, filmmakers, fashion designers and creatives!
The Mercedes-Benz Bokeh South African International Fashion Film Festival is an annual celebration of the unique and innovative visual art form of fashion films. This event has provided the perfect platform for local and international talents in both the fashion and film industries to collaborate and produce stunning visuals for the world to admire. It is an event focused on educating the viewer about fashion films which gives filmmakers and designers a great center stage to showcase their work and talent.
It’s no surprise that fashion films have grown in such popularity, they are what’s shaping the fashion landscape right now. But what I am rather impressed with by far this year is the Prizes that are being given away !
• $10 000 to be won in the Mercedes-Benz category.
• A Black Magic URSA Mini 4K EF with Canon EF 50mm F/1.2 Lens and accessories to the value of R100 000 to be won by the Best Picture winner.
• R30 000 to be won in the Young Designers Fashion Film Project Competition, which is presented by Cape Town Fashion Council and judged by Cape Town Fashion Council.
• And all winners will walk away with a hand made once-off trophy designed and manufactured by Artist and Industrial Designer, Chris Jones.
Damn maybe I should submit a fashion film next year!
What can you expect? Innovative films. Great fashion. Luxury cars. And inspiring talks by guest speakers during the day programs.
When? 21-23 April 2016
Where? The new Aquarium, V&A Waterfront
The festival is 8 days away…With that in mind, I suggest you dust off your suit and clear your schedule for a weekend to remember!
